Characteristics of the kingdom “In that Day’

The kingdom ‘in that day’ will be totally different than the kingdoms and nations as we know them today. The future kingdom will be the precursor of the New Jerusalem and the new heavens and earth.

All those returning with Christ after the tribulation, and those who survived the tribulation, will honor the king in the capital city of Jerusalem.

Judgment has been completed, and only God’s people will populate the earth and the millennial kingdom, to begin with.

All saved nations will hunger for the word and wisdom of the king.

Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion…He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide.” Micah 4:2-3a

Wars will have ended before the time of the millennial kingdom. The nations will be instructed to relinquish their weapons in favor of useful tools to be used in the kingdom.

They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” Micah 4:3b

There will be peace and prosperity for all citizens of the kingdom. Everyone will display acts of kindness and sharing to his neighbor.

Whereas Israel was formerly a vineyard which did not produce acceptable fruit, all will be changed ‘in that day.’

“‘In that day’ sing to her, ‘A vineyard of red wine! I, the LORD, keep it, I water it every moment; lest any hurt it, I keep it night and day…Those who come He shall cause to take root in Jacob; Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit…And it shall come to pass in that day that the LORD will thresh, from the channel of the River (Euphrates) to the Brook of Egypt; and you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel. So it shall be in that day…” Isaiah 27:2-3, 6, 12-13a

Again, Israel will be the center piece of the millennial kingdom. God will gather His people from the four ‘winds’ to their own land, defined as the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates River, and refine them. Recall, such is the defined boundaries of the land promised to them back in the early chapters of Genesis.

And then Hosea speaks of the abundant production in the land ‘in that day.’

In that day I will respond,” declares the LORD – “I will respond to the skies, and they will respond to the earth; and the earth will respond to the grain, the new wine and oil, and they will respond to Jezreel ( God will sow).” Hosea 2:21-22

‘In that day’ the needs of the earth to produce in abundance will flow upwards to the heavens (sky), and God will hear (answer) to the needs and respond downward to the earth to provide grain, new wine, and oil in abundance.

Prayer will be a top priority among all citizens of the kingdom. There is one ‘religion’ and one God, i.e. the God of Israel and Jerusalem.

“…and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty… And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him.” Zechariah 8:21-22

Citizens from all nations in the kingdom will cling to the Jew and desire to know their God.

This is what the LORD Almighty says: “In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’”

Zechariah 8:23

All of repentant Israel will be brought back to their homeland without persecution, and the United Nations will be amazed, if they even exist at that time.
